AJ EYES MORE SWC GOLD

Swedish star Andreas Jonsson hopes to restart his Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup medal collection with gold next year.

Swedish star Andreas Jonsson hopes to restart his Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup medal collection with gold next year after completing the set in Leszno.

AJ led his country to gold at Vojens in 2015, as well as claiming bronze in Manchester last summer and silver in the Final last Saturday.

Despite champions Poland being tipped as overwhelming favourites, Sweden still got within eight points of them on 42 at the Alfred Smoczyk Stadium.

We won in 2015, we got the bronze in 2016 and now silver, so we have completed the collection. We just have to start with gold again next year!

SGP star Antonio Lindback tallied a huge 20 points from a possible 21, with Freddie Lindgren weighing in with 11. Jonsson scored seven and Linus Sundstrom added four.

AJ was impressed with his side’s resilience against a powerful Poland team and tipped them to get back in the race for gold next season.

He said: “I thought we hung in well, but in the end, Poland were just too strong. I definitely think we did our best.

“Freddie and Antonio were outstanding. They rode really, really well. I struggled a little bit. I found the setup at the end of the meeting and felt fast. But it’s always difficult when you don’t find the setup until your last heat.

“We have shown together that we are a strong team. But Poland were the favourites and also on their home track. We knew it was going to be really difficult. But we fought hard and gave them a hard time for sure.

“We won in 2015, we got the bronze in 2016 and now silver, so we have completed the collection. We just have to start with gold again next year!”
