BRITISH CHAMP LAMBERT OFF TO CARDIFF

New British champion Robert Lambert admits it was an “incredible feeling” to storm his way to Cardiff with a six- ride British Final maximum.

New British champion Robert Lambert admits it was an “incredible feeling” to storm his way to Cardiff with a six-ride maximum at the British Championship Final in Manchester on Monday.

The King’s Lynn hero earned the Adrian Flux British SGP wild card after coming out on top in an epic final showdown with Belle Vue shooting star Dan Bewley, who finished second. SGP star Craig Cook claimed third spot with surprise package Jason Garrity fourth.

It’s something you dream of. I watched it as a kid on TV and you don’t really think you’ll do something like this.

Lambert is now British senior and under-21 champion and is the first rider to hold both titles simultaneously. He also played a pivotal role in GB’s charge to silver in last week’s Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations.

Things are set to get even more exciting for Lambert as he prepares for his full SGP debut at the Principality Stadium after going unbeaten in his five heat rides at the National Speedway Stadium, before delivering the goods when it mattered most in the final.

Reflecting on his title triumph, Lambert said: “It’s an incredible feeling. It was something really special in such a big meeting like this with all the British guys gunning for one spot.

“To go through the card and then face a last-heat decider is pretty hard. You need to keep focused and composed. I messed up a couple of times in the under-21s. I have definitely learned from that and today I went out and won it.”

The Norfolk ace admits it’s a dream come true to be mixing it with the sport’s top stars on the SGP series’ biggest stage.

He said: “It’s something you dream of. I watched it as a kid on TV and you don’t really think you’ll do something like this.

“I was there a few years back as a reserve, so to have five set races and be in the meeting is going to be incredible. I’ll take the chance with both hands and try and do the best I can.”

Join British trio Tai Woffinden, Craig Cook and Lambert at the Principality Stadium on July 21. Cardiff tickets are available here now: http://bit.ly/2HEWFQV.
